Anti-Immigration and Racism

Welcome back. You belong here.

The anti-immigration movement here in CO is interesting, a Latino pastor here in Denver feels that the anti-immigration issue will one day be our racism of the 60’s. We will one day look back on it with the same type of regret.

In LA, we were at a different place in terms of immigration reform. You obviously have intense feelings on both sides, but here Latino rights are still fairly new.

We are involved in helping Latinos in our community. This is the reason our children attend EL Foster, the only dual immersion school in Arvada, CO.

Have a great day,

Into the future,

davidT

David,I think the key word in your blog, and complaint towards your neighbor is ILLEGAL. I think most people in Colorado are fine with law abiding immigrants, but ILLEGAL is another story. Should we love and care for these people? Of course, but should we help or encourage people to break the law? Not according to the Bible. Romans 13 discusses obeying your government, unless it compromises Gods word. There is a reason why there are immigration laws in place, and a reason they should be followed. Immigration is a great thing, and most of us would not be here without it, but it needs to be done correctly. I cannot speak for your neighbor, but I know many people are only opposed to ILLEGAL immigration. I aqree we should love and care for these people, but I do not think we should call people racist for wanting to see the laws of their government upheld. Just my two cents!

Anonymous (I’d love your name btw), good comments. Hot topic for sure. Racism is something to just be careful of, that’s my point here.

  • Show Me The Money

Good analysis Anonymous !! Reading previous posts by DavidT, it seems that anyone having values different than his are labeled a racist or godless.

Different views are fine, the labeling part seems an overstatement. I wonder who you guys are…hmmm.

Hey David,First, there is nothing racist about being against an illegal activity. I’m against child molestation, but I’m not racist because of my view. I think the same can be said for illegal immigration.Second, there are different degrees of illegal built into the laws depending on the severity. Infraction, misdemeanor, felony. I would say the difference between degrees would be how immoral they are. There is nothing immoral about crossing a border. Illegal, yes, immoral, no. Because someone crosses a border to make a better life for themselves, that does not put them on par with a murderer or a child molester.Third, using Romans 13 to prove your point, anonymous, is a little misleading. Drilling down to Romans 13:9-10 you get the following: “The commandments, “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”With all that I will also add that I’m still against illegal immigration as well. You still have to love them though.Peace,Russ

  • Show them the Border

First off Dave, I think even using the word racism is to strong here. We are not talking about a race, we are talking about a movement of people from all over the world into our country. These people are from many different countries and just because we want them to enter our country and do it legally and not illegally does not make it racist. Come into America the correct way! Respect the culture that is here! I have no problem with someone bringing the culture that they know here into America, but respect ours as well. One part of doing that is living as an American citizen would and pay taxes and abide by the laws that are set in place. Many Many Many of these illegal immigrants that we are talking about come into our country and only bring their culture and expect us to adapt to them. Sorry that is not going to happen! but don’t call me a racist for wanting the laws that we have in this country to be uphelp. You can call me legalistic. If your illegal show them the border and then let them enter correctly.Russ Turley, I had a question about your second paragraph. You say that because someone is crossing the border ILLEGALLY! but it is to help better their life or the life of their family that it is not as bad as murder. Ok it may not be as bad as murder, but where do you draw the line. I want to make a better life for my family so I want to rob a bank. I hurt know one and I get a million dollars. Why should I get punished it was only to make my life better. You see where I am going here. If you break the law you break the law. These people (whom are from all different countries) come into america illegally and live off of our land which is cared for by the taxes we pay, yet they pay nothing to help make this nation run. They are stealing from our country millions of dollars and we want to let it go. Show them the border and let them enter the correct way.
